Aberdeen, Scotland

We’re here! I can’t believe the time we have talked about for 6 months is actually now!

Rebekah and Luke did great!! Rebekah LOVES airplanes, so 3 was a real treat! We flew from Dallas to Chicago 2-4pm, Chicago to Manchester, England 6:30pm-4am (TX time), then England to here 6am-7am (TX time). That put us here at the flat around 4pm local time. Luke was a champ! He slept in my arms 90% of the time and had adjusted to the 6-hr time change marvelously- we are shocked!! Rebekah missed her nap Monday during the flight and only got 3 hrs for nighttime sleep. She then slept the last flight for an hour. She was very confused as to where we were when we got here, so we didn’t insist on a nap for her sake. Getting left alone in an unfamiliar room seemed mean. She put herself down for a nap at 6pm (noon TX time) and slept 2 hours. We watched a movie from 8-9pm and then tried to put her down again. She was not a fan, tho clearly exhausted!!! I left the door cracked for some light and went in to her every time she called out (pretty frequently). When she was quiet, Luke would cry!! We fed him at 10pm and Josh pacied him sometime during the night, but then he slept until 6:30 am and has taken his usual naps! On the other hand, Rebekah finally fell asleep at 11pm and called for me at 5:30am. I went in and she told me she needed to sleep more. I rubbed her back and she was out until 11am! Luke napped from 8-10:30am, so Josh didn’t see the need to wake me (bless him!) and I was able to sleep off an exhaustion/no food/no caffeine headache.

Today, we have visited the grocery store (EVERYTHING is different!!) and the campus, which is beautiful. Rebekah has gotten to run around, which has been good for her. I am anxious for us all to make friends! Our neighbors and the other American wives have been calling/emailing, which is wonderful! My neighbor, Grace, took me to another store this afternoon and is willing to take me to the Walmart sister-store tomorrow. She even made us soup! The people we are renting from left some stuff and had a friend drop by some fresh things b/f we got here, so we had some food! Very sweet!

The place is nicely laid-out for us. There are lots of windows and the kids have their own rooms and we are in between. I have walked R around to acquaint her with each room and she is getting the hang of it. She has asked for her grandparents, her car, her car seat, Goldfish etc., and the patio numerous times, which makes me cry! It’s hard leaving so many familiar things behind. I imagine in a week or so, we will have more mapped out and I will know how to work everything!

So, all in all we are doing pretty well! I hate change, so moves are always tough on me, but I am glad to be here with my little family- my husband and both kids are such blessings to me!

Pray for us and especially Rebekah since she has had so many changes in her little life! She is always full of life, so this new adventure should prove a wonderful experience for her!

You’re there, you’re there! Now may the adventure begin. Though I know you don’t relish change, you do always seem to thrive in the midst of it. God has wired you in this way, no doubt to be a blessing to each person in your family and all the new people you will meet.

    Miss you so much already!
