Lizzie- 15 Weeks {3 1/2 months}

Tell me this is not the cutest baby you’ve ever seen….or don’t.  I actually would prefer you didn’t because I wouldn’t believe you anyway.  ;)

Lizzie girl is over 15 weeks now, or just about 3.5 months.  She still sleeps 13-14 hours at night with a feeding between 9:30 and 10 {I wake her} and around 4 am {when she wakes up on her own}.  She usually goes to bed between 6 and 6:30 and then is up between 7:45 and 9.  From there she is up for just over an hour, maybe an hour and a half and takes a 45-minute nap.  Then, she is up 1 1/2 hours- 2 hours and takes a 45-minute to several hour nap- always a mystery.  Then, she’s up about the same time and takes a 3rd 45-minute nap sometime b/w 4 and 5, which sets her up for bed time in the sixes somewhere.  She seems to be like Rebekah and get most of her sleep at night…it will be interesting to see if that changes as she gets older.  As I told my friend, Christy, today, I am just happy for a decent night of sleep and a very happy baby.  She is awesome.  :)

You may recall from 2 weeks ago that Lizzie weighed in rather low and at the 9th %tile.  This was discouraging to me as i felt everything was going swimmingly.  After a couple convos with health people, I felt better, but still was a bit worried.  Thus, I went back today to see if things improved.  Lizzie had gained close to a pound in 2 weeks, which was what took her a month last time- I am happy!  She is still between the 9th and 25th %tile, but it is improvement that does not require formula top-ups, which I am not keen to do {how British did I just sound?!  It’s like I’m from here…right, Kate?}.  I included some {appropriate} pics of her sweet little self so you can see that she is perfectly proportioned. {BTW, I always put the wash cloth there to keep her tummy warm…not to be overly modest with a 3-month old…it is the internet, though, so I guess you can’t be too careful.}

Daddy’s Back!

Josh was away for a week to interview for a job in Washington.  {He felt it went really well, but we won’t hear anything until next month.}  Anyway, there was much excitement in our home that Daddy was coming home on Friday!!!!  {Thankfully the kids were not privy to my mistake of him coming home on Thursday…that was such a bummer when I realized I was a day off.}  Anyway, Lizzie and I got Josh from the airport, and then Josh picked the kids up with me from school, which a super-fun surprise for them!  I hadn’t told them what time he would be back in case he was delayed {as both our moms were last time}.  Rebekah and Luke were ecstatic to see their daddy and ran to him with open arms.  Love.

So, if you’ve ever wondered what our Saturdays look like, this is it- lots of lap time!  {Usually, I am dressed and have make-up on…but Lizzie and I snuggle-snoozed for an extra hour that morning, which was totally worth it.  I love that kind of Saturday!}

Valentine’s Day Extravaganza

I do love holidays, even ones I hate…like Valentine’s Day.  Josh did manage to “send” me 4 dozen roses via Joy Price, which was a wonderful, unexpected surprise!  However, I love holidays because I love giving gifts and having a reason to celebrate!  I found great deals on an Alice in Wonderland and a Wall-E costume for the big kids, which they loved and wore all day.  I gave Lizzie extra kisses, which she also loved!  She actually had a heart onesie and pink overalls for the occasion.  She was pretty stoked.  We invited our entire play group over for a V-day party and rolled out sugar cookies to frost and decorate.  I also made quite ugly, but still delicious cake balls.  {Can I say how NOT a perfectionist I am?  I love that about myself…those cake balls were atrocious to look at, but it really doesn’t bother me.  I’m still impressed I got them made and all 3 kids got fed that day.}  It was less messy than I anticipated and lots of fun!  I took either terrible or no pictures, so here’s what you get!

What Rebekah has been up to…

Poor Rebekah is kind of getting overlooked on the blog simply because she is away at school so much!  I miss her terribly and have LOVED having her home while Josh has been away.  She and Luke have been off all week (they go back tomorrow :( ) for various school reasons, so they have been great company for me!  As for Rebekah, she is an avid writer and crafter still!  Her new love is bird watching, which is fairly limited in that we get crows and seagulls in our back garden.  I am feeling like I should put up a bird feeder to entice more birds to stop by and spice things up a bit for Rebekah.

She refused to do tallies in favor of writing the name of the bird EVERY time. She has about 100 written down- they're all crows or seagulls.

She is also loving drawing and incorporating stickers (and whatever else she can get her hands on!).  She likes to write names, too.  I wonder where she got the idea for Sophia?

Aunt Becky, these stickers are from that gorgeous paper doll book you gave her a couple of years ago- we keep everything!

Rebekah is just precious.  She is loving, generous, quick to ask forgiveness, even quicker to forgive, full of love for the Lord and His people, and ever willing to serve me and our family as a whole.  She is a wonderful role model to Luke and Elizabeth and is such a good big sister to them.  She is joyful, happy, kind, and just a blessing to us.  I am very proud of the girl she is becoming and how teachable she is.

Lizzie 14 Weeks

Lizzie was 14 weeks on Friday.  She is ever the peanut, weighing in at 11 pounds and at the 9th percentile.  Not sure how that is possible as she is a very happy eater, but she does eliminate A LOT, so maybe she has an amazing metabolism like her big sister….?  Anyway, I am done worrying about it, as there is little I can do other than force feed her, which is not going to happen.  She is still absolutely delightful and happy as ever.  Every day is more fun with her- today, she officially grabbed the toys on the bouncy seat at church!  She is learning those hands really are hers!  She is still crashing at night (13-14 hours usually, with feedings at 10pm and 4am) and has 3 regular naps of varying lengths- anywhere from 30  minutes to several hours, though 45 minutes is her norm.  I am not complaining- as long as she’s happy, I am pretty okay with most of what she does.  She really is just darling.  I am exhausted from 3 days of doing this alone and a lot of nonstop days, but I am a very happy, satisfied kind of tired.  I love my children, and they bless me greatly.

Conversation Heart White Chocolate Bark {V-Day Treat!}

I am re-posting this one for my American friends who are lucky enough to their hands on conversation hearts!  Make some for me!

I found this super-fun recipe for Conversation Heart Bark at Bake at 350 and knew I had to try it!  Rebekah and Luke were all for it and got to try conversation hearts for the first time!  {I know, it’s shocking there’s a candy I haven’t given them yet…keep your thoughts to yourself, please.}

White Chocolate Chips & Rice Krispies

Spread melted chocolate on top

Top with conversation hearts & lots of sprinkles

Yes, lots of sprinkles.

Break apart & enjoy!

  • 2 bags white chocolate chips
  • 2 bags semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies
  • conversation hearts
  • sprinkles {remember, lots!}

Place 3/4ths of the white chocolate chips in a glass or metal bowl.  Place over a pan of simmering water and stir until melted.  Remove from heat and stir in the remaining white chocolate chips until melted. (If the chocolate is too thick, stir in some Crisco…about 1 TBSP).

Stir in the Rice Krispies and spread onto a cookie sheet, lined with parchment paper. (I possibly skipped the parchment paper part.)

Melt the chocolate and spread it over the other mixture.

Place conversation hearts and sprinkles, preferably with the help of a 2 and 4 year old.

{I linked up to Miz Helen’s Full Plate Thursday, too!}

A few pics for you…

So, it has been busy lately!!  Something about having 3 kids…?  Anyway, I have had several events this week, and Josh is preparing to leave for WA and IL on Friday for 6 days.  {Why, you ask?  He is interviewing with Moody for the Spokane, WA campus!}  And maybe I’ve mentioned I have 3 children.  I was just thinking today that it’s a good thing I am a restless person who likes to busy myself, otherwise I would be going nuts!!  Keeping everything going in the house, getting kids to and from school, keeping Lizzie nursed and napped, going to dr’s appointments, working from home, exercising, and doing a few things for myself all add up quickly!  Maybe one day we’ll sleep through the night again, too.  ;)  Contrary to what it sounds like, I’m actually not complaining.  I really love my life- it’s just hectic!  So, if you’re wondering why I’m not writing much on this blog, that’s it.

I can say that Lizzie is a very loved baby!  Luke and I get the most time with her in that we’re home most of the day.  Bekah and Josh have to get all their loves in after school usually.  It really fills my heart when I hear the kids and Josh talk about how much they love our girl.  I am still so relieved she has not felt threatening to the big kids- I’m guessing it’s because she’s not that demanding, so they still get attention and quality time.  Plus, when I’m nursing and Josh is home, he is great at playing with them.

So cute.

Just hangin' out with Daddy.

Sweet face.

Doesn't this look cozy? Poor baby.

Lizzie, the thumb-sucker??

2 days old!

Josh and I realized that the pacifier/dummy was only creating problems for Lizzie, rather than solving them.  Thus, one day we just quit using it for sleep for Lizzie.  Almost immediately, Lizzie started going to sleep faster and with less crying and usually no crying at all…?  Crazy, right?  We were tired of running up the stairs to pop it back in, especially at night.  We found that Lizzie girl responded really well and is even sleeping better at night!  {This did not work with Luke, though we were inconsistent, so I am not saying that the paci should always be taken away.  It was a life-saver for Luke!}  Anyway, I personally have such a soft spot for thumb-sucking, as Rebekah was a thumb-sucker and it was just so sweet.  Plus, babies can find their thumbs so much faster than a paci and they’re always there, etc…we had no problem weaning either child of the thumb or the paci when the time was right, so I am not worried.  Anyway, Lizzie sucked her thumb during a lot of sonograms and even at a few days old when she was lucky enough to find it!  Since we took away the paci {well, we use it sometimes, just not in her bed}, she has been finding her hand a lot more.  It is so sweet!  Actually, she is quite busy with her hands.  When she nurses, she rubs me, my clothing, her own face.  I think she will like textures and be into gestures.  :) Anyway, it makes nursing such a special time- I really am enjoying it and even look forward to this sweet time with my girl.  Thank you, Lord!

Now, you just have to admire my girl- I will admit I am completely smitten with Elizabeth, but isn’t she just darling???  She is the sweetest, best baby ever!  That outfit with the pink sweater has been waiting to be worn- my mom got her some fab mix and match stuff from Baby Gap that I have been so excited about- she looked as adorable as I thought she would!  Josh finally realized with Rebekah that I dressed my girl{s} the way I would dress…absolutely!

I Wondered When This Day Would Come…

It came quickly with Rebekah…

She was also a proficient belly button pumper…

Now, it’s Luke…he did pull up his shirt, and note, he also has a blanket.  Bless my sweet children.

Lizzie {& Rebekah & Luke} at 3 Months

Lizzie is 13 weeks today and 3 months tomorrow!  I am so excited!  I have to admit I am not one to mourn newborn days- I live for 3 months!  For me, that’s when things settle a bit and baby becomes so much more fun!  I just love it.  Lizzie at 3 months is no exception- she is a delight to have and so happy most of the time.  Like I said before, as long as she is fed and slept a bit, she is pretty chill.  Her neck is strong, but she’s not doing much else other than kicking her legs, especially in the bath.  That girl does looooove her hot bath!  I have never bathed a small baby so much, but I just can’t resist when it brings her such pleasure.  As for her “schedule,” we have a pretty solidly predictable routine- she wakes up for the day between 8 and 9am, stays up an hour and a half or so, then naps for 45 minutes.  I feed her, and we usually go out somewhere with Luke.  Luke goes to nursery, and Lizzie goes down for her afternoon nap.  Too frequently she wake sup at the 45-minute mark again, but I usually wait it out for her to fall back asleep, which she usually does.  Then, I feed her and we get the big kids from school.  Most days, Lizzie goes down for a 45-minute late afternoon nap at 4-ish.  I go ahead and feed her again just so she can enjoy the rest of the evening- nursing seems to be very comforting for her and since she’s tiny, I’m not worried about “over-feeding” her at all.  Then, believe it or not, she’s ready for her bath at 5:45 or 6 and to eat one last time at 6:15, then off to bed at 6:30!  I wake her at 10-ish for a feed and then she eats at 4am again.  And that’s that.  I would love to sleep thru the night again one day, but I feel that this is just where we’re at right now, and I’m okay with it.  In fact, we’ve made a lot of progress- especially since Lizzie rarely cries going down wide awake- that is a huge praise indeed!

Lizzie at 3 months

She's talking to her toys here.

Rebekah at 3 months

Rebekah usually woke up very happy with life! (she also took short naps)

One of my all-time favorite pics ever.

Luke at 3 months

This makes me laugh- I am clearly holding Rebekah away from Luke, who is about to lose it...that pretty much sums up that season of life.

Luke had weird comb-over hair as a baby, so we buzzed it. I love his sweet head here.
