Lots of pictures from the last few weeks…

“We’re astronauts!”  {as if that needed clarification…pretty obvious, right?}

We also had the privilege of hosting Josh’s aunt and uncle for 2 nights in between their stops in London to see their son and his wife.  The kids loved having new-to-them family visit, and so did we!

It’s always fun to remember to upload the pictures from my small camera I carry in my diaper bag.  Here are some sweet ones from us being out and about.  Lizzie is with Josh in several- it has been so sweet to watch her love her daddy so much!  He brings out a smile in her that is very special and just for him.  She loves to play with his chin hair and just stare at him.  I LOVE it!

Lastly, I am loving the 30 tulips that popped up out back- they are fighting off the hail, rain, and snow bursts we keep getting!

Happy Birthday, Luke!

Our sweet boy is 4 today!  I cannot believe it!  We moved to Scotland when Luke was younger than Lizzie is, so seeing him double what Rebekah was {2} is just plain crazy.  I had NO idea what a funny little boy he would become- he is hysterical and keeps us laughing all the time {well, most of the time anyway}.  He is sweet, tender, fun, smart, eager to please, loyal, social, and a whole lot like me.  ;)    We are two peas in a pod, Lukey and me, and I am just fine with that.  I love my little buddy, and the little boy he has become.  Since starting nursery and having a little sister, Luke has really blossomed- he has become more independent and more likely to try new things.   He has the sweetest little smile that just melts my heart- and melt it, he does.  He knows just when to tell me he loves me and is very, very generous with his kisses and pats.  Luke can barely walk by you without grazing you with a kiss or rub, almost without realizing it.  Lizzie is no exception- Luke loves to “wub” his baby sister.

Lukey Duke, I love you.  In fact, I adore you.  You make every day so fun and special, and I love reading to you, playing games with you {even tho you cheat}, and doing your puzzles for you, I mean with you.  I love your full body hugs and the way you melt into us when you sit on our laps.   Lastly, I LOVE the way you make your food talk before you eat it.  You kill me.  Really.  You are my very best boy.

My New Favorite Pictures of the Kids

Josh reminded me we have a wonderful portrait lens for the camera he got me last year for Christmas.  I am bad about change and love efficiency so much that I can barely be bothered to change out a lens!  However, every year for Christmas we give both sets of grandparents 3 5×7′s for a frame they have- that way they get updated pics every year.  I decided to take them myself this year and, honestly, I’m pretty happy.  I’ve never been accused of being a perfectionist.  ;)  I think these pics capture each child well.  I also included a couple extra pics b/c I love them.

Happy Easter from Aberdeen!

My family quickly informed me that posting lots and lots and lots of pictures is just fine, as long as it’s the kids and not food!  Ha!  I’m still chuckling.  Anyway, we had a great Easter weekend in which we hunted for Easter eggs on campus and got to enjoy a family service at church, followed by a delicious lamb dinner {Josh rocked the lamb, y’all}.  So, here are our pics from the weekend {you should see how many I didn’t post, by the way!}.

side note-some of these refused to be sized down…who knows?

Easter Day

It’s too bad my baby doesn’t love me {it’s me, not the food she’s smiling at…seriously}

Love this trio!

Lizzie is 5 Months! {TONS of pics!}

{alternate title:  20 or so of my favorite pics of her first solids!}

I have been pretty good recently about not posting EVERY picture I have.  However, these are all so sweet, I just couldn’t resist.  I do looooove my baby girl, and this first feeding of something other than breastmilk is a pretty big deal!  {Right?}  I had planned to wait until Lizzie girl was 6 months, but this girl knows what she wants.  She has been eyeing us for weeks, almost with a suspicious look, as if questioning why we aren’t sharing with her.  This suspicion has escalated to trying to grab our drinks and food, so we decided as long as I fed her after a nursing session, “solids” would only add to her caloric intake.  Josh requested to be present for her first solids {evidently I did Luke’s without him, which was a big bummer- oops.} .  Rebekah and Luke also wanted to be here, so yesterday we did it after breakfast.  Everyone was so excited- I found that I dreamed about it through the night and woke up excited for this new developmental step, tho I’ll admit a bit of sadness in starting what eventually will wean her.  Lizzie was like a little bird and didn’t even spit out any!  She just gobbled it up {it= organic rice cereal with breastmilk}, and when she was full, she quit opening her mouth and leaning in for more.

I’ll admit many of these are similar, but some of her expressions are priceless, and who am I to deprive you of sheer cuteness?

I plan on keeping up small amounts of rice cereal in the am’s, and I’ll mix in some fruits at some point.  I always make my own baby food, though she is not old enough for my homemade brown rice cereal, which I may or may not do this time around.  Everything else I’ll do myself for sure.  I LOVE making baby food and feeding babies!  Next, I’ll add in a “tea time” {aka dinner} meal.

As for the rest of her development, she has been sleeping until 6am!  I still feed her at 10 {wake her}, then she goes until 6 instead of 5.  She usually eats and goes back down until somewhere between 7 and 8am.  She stays awake for 2-2 1/2 hours and usually takes pretty good naps {1.5hrs+}.  She is still very happy, busy, and nosey.  She has to be where everything is going on and loves her siblings’ attention.  She is pretty fond of me, too.  She laughs if you kiss her tummy, and most fussy times are cured with a song that incorporates her feet in some way.  She is a doll and only getting more amazing every day.

Meals that Impress {without the stress!}: Asian Tacos

Since becoming a mother of 3 who also works at home, I have had to figure out ways to be creative in the kitchen without neglecting my kids, husband, or work!  I thought I’d share a few of my meals that have impressed my family but have not added a lot of stress to the hustle and bustle of our day.

Asian Tacos {adapted from Rachael Ray’s magazine}

  • 6-8 chicken thighs
  • 3/4 c soy sauce
  • 3 T honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3/4 c green onions, sliced
  • 1T fresh grated ginger
  • 1/4 t sesame oil
  • tortillas
  • carrots (buy them shredded if you can)
  • cucumbers, sliced and quartered
  • hoisin sauce

So easy!  Put the chicken thighs in the slow cooker/crock pot.  Mix the sauce ingredients {soy sauce thru sesame oil}and pour over the thighs.  Cook on low until dinner.

20 minutes before you’re ready to eat (or earlier in the day, say while the baby is napping ;) ), cook some white rice, chop cucumbers, and shred carrots.  Pull out the chicken, shred it, and build your tacos!  Don’t forget some hoisin sauce either.

Super Heroes & Kissey Faces

To our families who actually look at this blog every day, I am sorry for the lack of updates.  When I updated Picasa (where I keep my pics), it took away my “send to wordpress” button, so I waited until I remembered to ask Josh to fix it.  He can fix anything.  :)

Anyway, our big news is that we’re flying back to TX July 2nd and onto Washington July 30th!  Those 4 weeks in between will give us time to show off Lizzie, I mean spend time with family, and get our stuff ready to move from storage to WA.  We are really excited about all this, and I am trying to be patient.  ;)

Here are Rebekah and Luke as super-heroes…love that my nursing cover has yet another use.  Look closely and you’ll see that Rebekah has lost her second bottom tooth.

And now for Lizzie girl.  Lizzie is still pretty sweet, but I really think she might be pushing thru some bottom teeth pretty soon, which seems to be bugging her a bit.  She is so alert and loves to look around- reminds us a lot of Rebekah.  This position cracked me up- Luke used to sleep like this.

Making a kissey face because that’s what Mommy is doing to get me to smile…

Here’s what Mommy was going for!

Spring Time in the ‘Deen

Y’all in Texas have no idea how spectacular 80 degree weather is in Aberdeen….spectacular as in we never, ever get it, and certainly not in March.  Thus, Lizzie girl and I spent the afternoon in the back garden.  She spent her time studying her toes, and I spent mine eating her up.  So darling- love her little pearly-toes and chubby little fingers grabbing them.

Hi, Mom!

Five years ago, at the end of a long day, when I was worn out and ready to just throw in the towel, Josh would take baby Bekah and pop just her head around the kitchen door and say, “Hi, Mom!”  I have always loved Josh’s narrative for the kids, and this is no exception.  I tend to have a negative perspective, like the kids are crying AT me, out of frustration for some need they think I’m not fulfilling. I take it rather personally.  Josh always turns it around and says stuff like, “I just love you soooo much, Mom!  I think you’re wonderful, and I just hate missing even a second with you.” {This goes back to the beginning of our marriage- every day for 3 years we both separately drove past the same chained-up husky every morning and afternoon.   I always felt so sorry for the hairy mongrel- who keeps a husky in Texas heat?!  The poor thing had 8 feet to roam around… I never said anything to Josh, who one day mentioned how much that dog must love getting so much outdoor time!  Glass half full, for sure.}  As silly as it is, Josh’s eternal optimism and hope help me power through almost any day.

So, imagine my delight when my two favorite girls popped around the corner to say, “Hi, Mom!”

And here are my boys with Lizzie.  Such a sweet family I have.

A little tummy time

My 2 favorite littles doing some tummy time.  Luke is always so eager to get in the action with “Little little.”
