Car seats in the kitchen and fun(ny) happenings

So, here are some promised pictures. Not as cute as I would have hoped (or possibly implied in my last post). Sad. Anyway, Luke is lookin’ pretty cute in his tee-shirt and diaper. I had pulled the car seats out of the car to give some lifts (don’t say “ride” because it’s crude) to some girls. The kids thought it was amazing to have their seats in the kitchen while Josh was making pancakes. Yes, you read that correctly- Josh (not I) was making pancakes. Love him.

(Remember my first give-away starts tomorrow!!!!)

Look at Cici (my sister's sock monkey)!!

Did you know these are our carseats?

and they're in our kitchen?!

Here are some fun/funny things about the kids recently:

-Rebekah told me this morning with a wince that she was experiencing “hot gas” while holding her hand over her bottom.  I’m not sure what this is all about, and I am fine with that.

-As I was putting Luke down the other night, I rubbed his cheek and told him I loved him, as I always do. I turned out the light and was walking downstairs, when his sweet little voice chirped, “I yuv you!” I immediately turned around and picked him back up. Man, that kid has me wrapped around his finger.

-Rebekah likes to “help” me get Luke up from his naps.  Yesterday, he had a solid 2 1/2 hour nap, complete with sleep lines and sweat. Sweet thing. Anyway, he was fussy groggy and I told him he had had a good nap and should be happy. Rebekah channeled her inner Uniqua and said (and I quote), “He’s like, “No I didn’t, Mama, that’s why I’m fussin’.” Hilarious.

-Today Luke walked the whole way to campus. (Yes, I was stressed the whole time.) He was particularly excited about a Ferrari revving by (pointing and yelling “Vrooom!” as it roared past- boys will be boys), as well as by a runner- Luke studied him, pivoting to stare him down as he blasted past us. Then, Luke popped his knees up one by one, pantomiming a run, yet finding himself stationery. Also hilarious.

-The other night as Josh was reading the kids a Bible story after dinner, Rebekah realized that Jesus was born, and that He was God, too. So, she asked if there were 2 gods? Josh wouldn’t answer, probing more. She said that God was God and He was the daddy, but that Jesus was God, too, and he was a baby. Josh was satisfied that with enough information she would be a devout trinitarian. It’s important that she’s not a heretic, you know.

-Similarly, the other night when I was praying for her (and Luke’s) salvation with her, she stopped me and said, “Mommy, don’t you know I already believe in Jesus. You don’t need to pray that anymore.” I was pretty touched until she said, “And I believe in you and Daddy and Luke.” So, essentially she loves us all. Fair enough. Will keep praying (as I would have anyway).

-Luke can be pretty funny and pretty serious. I love it when he eats something delicious (say an M&M) and in all seriousness says, “Yum.”

-Rebekah told us the other day that she must be getting old because her knees hurt.

-Rebekah’s most recent development has been her use of the subjunctive. She will watch a conflict in a movie and say, “If I was there, I would…” Now, granted she should say “were” and not “was” but she gets the idea. :) For instance, she saw Lightning McQueen get tangled up in barbed wire and she said, “If I was there, I’d get a big pair of scissors and cut off that big string.” She does this all the time, and most of her ideas are actually pretty good, even if they do violate basic story plot line by avoiding the conflict and skipping directly to the denouement.

Thanks for sharing what life is like at your house. Your kids are just too funny. I was trying not to laugh too loudly here at work–quite a challenge. And you are ever the teacher with all your talk about th subjunctive and “denouement” vocab. Love it. :-) Happy Wednesday!!

Thanks, Shay- always fun to throw the subjunctive in there, ya know?

I have totally experienced the serious form of “yummy.” Riley Jane and her darling cousin are two peas in a pod there.

I am rolling laughing at this post. Seriously. Julia is sleeping in my lap (hey, I gotta do what I can to get the girl to sleep and still get on the internet) and she just jumped because I started laughing to hard. My favorite parts were the “hot gas” and knowing that Rebekah’s not a heretic. I would have lost sleep over that one. ;)

  6. Carrie Sterner says:

I believe it was Elizabeth who called it “hot gas” too. She was insistent that it was “hot.” That is too funny!
