Our 13th Year of Bliss!

13 Years!!!

Today marks our 13th year of wedded bliss.  I’ll be the first to admit that even marrying my best friend and the coolest, handsomest, smartest man I know still doesn’t change the fact that anniversaries mean something.  Another year of working through differing opinions, another year of learning about each other and choosing to honor the other, another year of parenting together and, another year of asking forgiveness and actually forgiving, another year of doing life together and deciding that that is the best decision you’ve ever made.

Last night Josh surprised me with a lovely dinner out and two tickets to Wicked!!!!  I had {not so subtely} hinted i wanted to go, but I figured we didn’t need to spend the money since…well, keep reading!

Today is also special because we’re celebrating Josh’s recent submission of his final PhD work and are looking forward to our trip to Scotland in a mere two weeks to defend it!  Lord willing, I’ll come back as Mrs. Dr. Malone!

I have to say I really love my husband and my family.  I love my life here in Spokane, and i feel very, very blessed to have a past and future I am excited about.

The First 5 Years

Many of our current friends know us as a family of 4 or 5, but few remember us before we had kids.  Since we did 5 years on our own, it’s always fun to re-post these pics.

We hunted with my family…

Josh’s first deer

We traveled…

To visit family (Frani and Phil- the coolest!) in CA 2003

Carnival Cruise to Cozumel and Belize 2004

Alaskan Cruise and my mentor’s wedding immediately after (we flew back and drove straight there) 2006

Josh played guitar…many moons ago…

Josh helping with worship at our church

We did tons of mission trips- seriously, we’ve been to Mexico (and Josh to India) more than a dozen times…you’d think my Spanish would be better :)

Josh to India 2003 and 2004 (yes, he looks young…you know you’re thinking it…)

Mexico 2004 with TCA (I taught Spanish 1 and 2 at Trinity Christian Academy for 4 years and went on the school trip to an orphanage 3 years (I skipped the year I was 6 months pregnant))…

Mexico 2005 with Dad with TCA

Mexico with our church (Culiacan) 2005 and 2006-I think?

We visited dear friends…

Our best friends, Matt and Shannon Morton, had their first baby in Sept. 2004 and I was officially in love with a baby for the first time. Elizabeth will be 5 in September- yikes! She also has a precious little sister, Abigail who is 3 months older than Luke!

We had a dog we adored…

Our Christmas picture 2004 or 2005?

We did outdoor activities that did not involve slides or bubbles….

Skiing 2005

I mentored young women and loved being a part of discipleship…

Wilderness- another TCA trip (these gals just finished their freshmen year in college- what???)

You know, we did a lot of cool stuff. Looking back, I have fond memories and even miss some of the freedom to just take off. However, NOTHING could replace the joy {not to mention the sanctification} Rebekah and Luke, and now Lizzie, bring us and the work the Lord is doing in their lives is just as valuable. With prayer, they, too, will have a passion for people and God’s word and we will resume these activities soon!
