What did we do before we had kids?

Josh and I often wonder what we used to do before we had kids? I mean, we were married 5 years before precious came along…what did we DO with all our time?!

We hunted with my family…

Josh’s first deer

We traveled…

To visit family (Frani and Phil- the coolest!) in CA 2003

Carnival Cruise to Cozumel and Belize 2004

Alaskan Cruise and my mentor’s wedding immediately after (we flew back and drove straight there) 2006

Josh played guitar…many moons ago…

Josh helping with worship at our church

We did tons of mission trips- seriously, we’ve been to Mexico (and Josh to India) more than a dozen times…you’d think my Spanish would be better :)

Josh to India 2003 and 2004 (yes, he looks young…you know you’re thinking it…)

Mexico 2004 with TCA (I taught Spanish 1 and 2 at Trinity Christian Academy for 4 years and went on the school trip to an orphanage 3 years (I skipped the year I was 6 months pregnant))…

Mexico 2005 with Dad with TCA

Mexico with our church (Culiacan) 2005 and 2006-I think?

We visited dear friends…

Our best friends, Matt and Shannon Morton, had their first baby in Sept. 2004 and I was officially in love with a baby for the first time. Elizabeth will be 5 in September- yikes! She also has a precious little sister, Abigail who is 3 months older than Luke!

We had a dog we adored…

Our Christmas picture 2004 or 2005?

We did outdoor activities that did not involve slides or bubbles….

Skiing 2005

I mentored young women and loved being a part of discipleship…

Wilderness- another TCA trip (these gals just finished their freshmen year in college- what???)

You know, we did a lot of cool stuff. Looking back, I have fond memories and even miss some of the freedom to just take off. However, NOTHING could replace the joy Rebekah and Luke bring us and the work the Lord is doing in their lives is just as valuable. With prayer, they, too, will have a passion for people and God’s word and we will resume these activities soon!

Talk about a trip down memory lane. That is a cool post. Brought back many memories. Those were fun years for you, but Papa and I are thankful for the little additions to the family!

Love all the old pics :) Especially the cruise ones! Hope you guys can get away when Josh's parents are there just for a night even :)

I agree with Phyllis and tried to change my name like she did – we'll see if it worked! I haven't been Grandmama for a long time now -

Um, is it okay that I just cried? Seriously. I'll blame it on hormones. ;)

What a sweet post with all those pictures. I think in the chaos of things I'm really missing some of our freedoms before kids, but you are so right – nothing could replace the joys of being their parents!

Emily, what a sweet picture into your life before I knew you. First, were then and still are a knock out. 2nd, I had no idea you went on so many missions trips and had traveled sooo much. Cool! Love the one in your daddy's arms. Life just keeps getting richer and richer doesn't it! Love you.

  7. Matt says:

OK, that was a good post, but where in the world did you find that picture of Shannon and me? I look like I'm about 14. That was crazy!

  8. Shay says:

I remember, I remember! You also had slumber parties with us, went out for lunch at school, edited my English papers (super fun), and talked adoringly about Josh (which you still do!). What a fun post. Is it weird that I haven't even met your kids, but I feel like I know them?!

    Love and miss you, Em!
